Old Man Winter is getting in his last licks and the fat lady is still buried under 20 feet of snow somewhere in Ohio, since her emergency beacon crapped out a while back we'll have to wait until spring thaw. I hope she's not frozen solid by then, do you have any idea how difficult it is to get a fat lady into a tub of warm water?

2 is the forecast low here tonight and tomorrow night. They've been wrong for the past week. The forecast has been off 5 to 12 degrees higher than the actual lows. One night 16 was forecast and we ended up with 1. Not much to say except it has been so cold that the stinkbugs are giving up the ghost so we should see much less of them and have a relatively bug free summer. If we get a summer.

Oh, yeah. We're supposed to get 4 - 8" of snow Monday. This is like being sat on by a fat woman on the subway. GO AWAY!

Ah yes... the good ol 7 local from Manhattan to Willets Point (Shea Stadium) and when running to the layup, Main Street . That train runs over some treacherous elevated track but.... never outdone by the "Love train" (aka the L aka the Canarsi Line). BTW Subway trains don't get stuck in snow... they just slow down,.. Wayside block signals and speedposts are not easy to see in a whiteout.

Isn't it weird ? It's kind of like your country and my country traded weather. Usually we get the unseasonably mild winter here and you guys get the cold stuff. This year we seem to have traded places. Actually this winter this year reminds me of the kind of winters I remember from when I was a kid back in the 60's. Back then we used to get some long cold ones with a lot of snow.. This reminds me of then.

K0RGR

It looks like we're in for some big thawing this weekend, but with more snow to come. It looks like rain coming for this afternoon. At 35 degrees, we should be OK, but I bet most of it freezes on contact with the very cold ground. Snow is just a pain to deal with, but ice is a special treat - that's what usually causes damage, and if we get a lot of rain, we'll have floods. The snow is 7 feet deep around here in places.

Nope. Private property. Dole Fresh Fruits warehouse. The port is entirely fenced in like this thanks to 9/11.

Across the little inlet type thing, there seems to be a public jetty that has some fishermen on it. Don't think i got much of that in the video. There's also a yacht marina beyond that as well.

The Cowtan & Way interpolation of the last 40+ years of global temperatures below clearly shows the upward trend of temperature since the warm El Niño of 1998. Actually, 2013 was warmer than 1998. Image courtesy of RealClimate.org and Kevin Cowtan from the University of York.

Which means that if we do get an El Niño this year, or even next year, even if it's a relatively weak one, it will likely be incredibly hot.

Who knows? Might be in the neighborhood soon visiting a friend but on the other end of the state in Hippaytown (SF). Hot is great for watching the sights.

Well, SF is more in the middle than the other end but, regardless, should you by chance decide to take in the TJ donkey show or something and end up down here in the southwestern corner, let me know. I'm good on the Zed (heh heh heh).

Beautiful day today in the Ozarks. Temp in the FM band, gentle breezes.
Lots of clovers for some reason--big ones. Found 2 four-leafers so far. :)

Our kitties are almost 5 weeks old. The nursing must be 'getting old' for Mama,
yesterday she placed a headless rat in their basket. Today, 2 have climbed out,
but still hesitant to exit the toolshed. One or two have sampled the Kitty Chow.

That might be a factor here too Cor. NOAA is already warning of an El Niňo summer possibly even winter. We tend to get very hot and stormy in the Eastern US when that happens.

NOAA is predicting a 50% chance of El Niño conditions developing next autumn.

A majority of weather forecasting models indicate that an El Nino may develop around the middle of the year, but it was too early to assess its likely strength, the U.N. World Meteorological Organization said on April 15.

Dr Wenju Cai, a climate expert at Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, said rises in Pacific Ocean temperature above those seen in previous El Nino years and the quick movement of warm water eastwards had raised fears of a significant event.

"I think this event has lots of characteristics with a strong El Nino," said Cai.

"A strong El Nino appears early and we have seen this event over the last couple of months, which is unusual; the wind that has caused the warming is quite large and there is what we call the pre-conditioned effects, where you must have a lot of heat already in the system to have a big El Nino event."

If not, the Aussies think it is close to happening. El Niño? Not so much a matter of if, but how big. Bigger is better. Especially if you're a Californian.

Heck, I know what you mean. The thing is that we all know that NOAA has been walking on eggshells so as not to disturb people who don't believe in climate change. Soooo... they tend to be behind the curve in ways that the Aussies, the Kiwis and others aren't.

Well you're welcome to it. As far as I'm concerned its hot enough for me now. Let me get way up North first and then you can have all the blazing heat you want. As long as I don;t have to be in the thick of it I'm okay. For me anything between 45 - 65 deg F is warm. Anything above 65 is HOT!!!

The conservatory closes early during the summer. Instead we will be rehearsing at an old church that is not air conditioned. The only "cooling system" are a few ceiling fans hanging about 40 feet up along the high ceiling. As a result I probably will go to rehearsal every other week and avoid it on really hot days. Might even bring a clip on fan with me on the nights I do go. Fortunately in September we'll switch back to the conservatory.

That happens a LOT in Florida/Georgia with the love bugs. I used to work local delivery from West Palm to Miami driving a flatbed. Certain times of the year, you literally couldn't drive 3 miles without having to scrape off the bug bodies so you could use the wipers to clean the guts off. If you didn't scrape them off first, they would literally lift the wiper blades off the glass and create a horrible mess! I'm so glad I don't live down there anymore....lol
