    Unfortunately, the Paranormal field is just like the so-called "UFO" field;
There's so much bullcrap out there and so many "true-believers" being
sheared by so many con-men, you can't separate the wheat from the chaff.
Personally, I have my own understanding in both fields
and don't give a hoot what anyone else thinks about them.
We'll all find out on Judgement Day (Yep; I believe in that one).

As for the OP's question: I know from personal experience
that there is a conflict going on behind our backs and outside our perceptions,
but I don't believe for a minute in "ghosts."
Randy put it best when he said:
"Grandma always says she loves you, but she never says
    where she hide the Will."
I think television "ghost hunters" and "mediums" who "contact the dead"
are fools at best and frauds at worst.
Every time I see camera optic artifacts and dust motes called
"spirit orbs" I roll my eyes.

The vast majority of so-called "EVPs" are random noises that have been
"anthro-pized" by the brain "filling-in the blanks"
as evolution and The Almighty designed it to do.
That, and so-called "hunters" TELLING people "did you just hear "GET OUT!"?
    Oh please....
Here's an experiment: "Don't you DARE think of a pink rabbit!"
Guess what you can't help but think of?
Same with "Did you hear such-and-such?"
Well of course you do, after his kind SUGGESTION.
You can't help it. It's just "being human."

Now all that being said, you who call yourself "rationalist"
go to the next thread .

In the past, I have worked on a personal theory concerning
this "other" reality involving the use of technology.
While most experiments have returned no results,
a few have, and results I cannot rationalize-away.

I write this only to encourage the OP to pursue his interest.
I do not wish to collaborate with anyone or publicly post
results to be used as fodder for those who practice the
"religion of Self"* Never hand your ideas and dreams
over to the mob; they will not consider them seriously
but they will crush and belittle them,
because they feel good about themselves only by degrading others.
Remember the parable of "pearls before swine."
    Follow your own lights.

I consider the existance of such things so improbable that I pass them off as non-existent. Nice for ghost stories but that's about it. When was the last time you had a chat with a ghost ? Or a man in the sky ?

I've had some personal experiences which seemed linked to the "paranormal" but which are actually normal and have rational explanations founded in the here and now.

I've had three "solid" ghost or entity experiences, one where I actually vocalized "why I was there", and the experience ended.

One other is best described as a UFO, and others saw it too. Dunno WTF that was, but it was pretty cool.

Call me a skeptical believer... and I'm very skeptical of the human limitation... the well of perception.

But hey, I do like pulling the tail of Schrodinger's Cat.

Do the guys in the police helicopter count?
All the world’s a stage, but obviously the play is unrehearsed and everybody is ad-libbing his lines. Maybe that’s why it’s hard to tell if we’re living in a tragedy or a farce.

"You can't top personal experiences and I have had several."

Well Pookie, I've had a few myself rather weird but possibly, I say possibly explainable and one that lasted a good 15-20 minutes that was beyond even a sci-fi writer's imagination. If it wasn't truly paranormal (beyond the range of normal experience or scientific explanation) I don't know what is. Many may speculate, I don't, it is what it is and that's all that it is, WAY beyond any rational thought. Here's the kicker, it had nothing to do with the usual spiritual stuff, alternate realities, different dimensions or dark quantum places of the mind you see in a plethora of TV shows these days, rather one of those screwball things nobody wants to talk about. I don't mind if people think I'm crazy, I rather like it. My reputation precedes me like an invisible fence saving me the trouble of shouting GET OFF MY LAWN!
