My XYL wants to know about a couple of PC programs a friend of hers recommended..
One is called CC Cleaner and the other Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro...As I am ignorant regarding computers I thought I would ask the Oracles here...

I use CC Cleaner to get rid of a lot of junk, switched off Java and have Micrrosoft essentials running.
Updating daily, latest patches etc and advanced system care on.

Both are good, but neither takes the place of a good anti-virus program. There are some good ones out there, even a couple that are free like Avast and AVG. I would advise NOT downloading from CNet but going to ZDNet instead. I've gotten 9 programs in the last few months from CNet and 8 of them had viruses (virii?).

I run both of them on several computers , seem to work good and do what they claim.
I'll second John's statement about "CNET", have gotten bug's there ,, not a good place.
CCleaner.exe Available Here is an excellent utility. Never had any issues downloading popular software from CNet in many years.
Malwarebytes is also excellent software, but unless you want the "online" resident protection, the freeware version is sufficient. It includes the scanning and removal utilities plus a few others. No need to buy the 'pro' version if you have good anti-virus software.
QAnon / GOP Republicans mentally lack the necessary intelligence to even tell a decent lie (Ex: A cabal of Satanic, cannibalistic pedophiles run a global child sex trafficking ring and conspired against former President Dotard dRUMPf during his term in office... Jewish space lasers, etc.). What in the hell makes anyone believe these melon heads can actually govern?
I run Norton 360 along with CC Cleaner...virus and malware free so far. No problems in general.
The louder the monkey, the smaller its balls.
Norton is junk, imho. Though CCleaner is an excellent utility. And as Luke said, I don't think I'd spend money on Malwarebytes, just get the free addition for now.
Also UltraDefrag is another good way to speed things up - http://ultradefrag.sourceforge.net/en/index.html
Why the hell is everyone downloading Piriform software from everywhere but Piriform?
Go here and get it from the developer:

Same thing with Malwarebytes:

CNet? WTF--the 90s are over with...
Piriform offers a couple other nice pieces as well. Defraggler beats the pants off the MS integrated offering--and Recuva has saved files that were inadvertently deleted--or the result of a corrupt USB stick. CCleaner has a lot of great tricks. You can turn obnoxious shit off (without incurring the nagging MS message at every bootup that the .ini has changed), simply delete items, and it does a fine job on the registry and temp files for an amazing range of apps. I donate to them annually.
Malwarebytes is a major line of defense and "fix" once something boogery gets on your system. Don't wait to download it until your system is compromised--a lot of buggies will prevent you from doing that...
I pay for the active MB version (lifetime license). It runs along with Avira (I pay for that too) and has kept everything away for the past year. My suggestion is the active version.
Be willing to pay or donate for what you use and provides great utility. Coders and developers work hard to make this stuff--it would not be around very long if everyone was a parasitic bottomfeeding freerider...:cool2:
P.S. Norton/Symantec, outside of their corporate virus solutions--is a bloated, kludged together piece of shit that does as much to choke a computer as to protect it. Run away, as there are better and more lightweight solutions that do a much finer job of heuristic protection without sucking down huge amounts of system resources and consuming CPU with shoddy scanning methods.
