    wotkx,you are right. if I'd tried it I wouldn't had to ask.
    I have one more question.I am learning code and want to buy a cheap CW 40 meter transeiver(if there is such a thing)Looking at catalogs I see the term side tone.Can someone tell me what that means?
    Also anything else I need to watch for.
    And thanks to all for your replies to my last no such thing as a dumb question.

    This one is 4 band and something I have been considering.

    I finally broke down and bought K1-4. (Its a kit mind you)

    Anyway there are all kinds of 40M CW transceivers out there. The range in price. Some are kits and some are factory assembled. Also, with some companies you have to option to buy them either way.
