My dad helped me buy a boat yesterday. It was a co-workers boat that had sat up for two or three years. $1800 later it was home and it was mine. We pulled FOUR large lawn bags of pecan leaves out of it, and started cleaning it up. Today we replaced the trim pump and got it working. Tomorrow we'll siphon all the old gas out of it, blow out the carbs, and see if we can get it cranked up. It's a 1996 Cajun 18'6" center console with a 1996 Johnson 130 V4 motor.

This is what the trim pump looked like this morning.

And this is what it does now...

That's a nice size and style. Got another thousand to bust out? At least you said "fish on" and not B.O.A.T.

Buying and selling the hole in the water that you pour money into.

That will be a nice fishing boat. I do have to agree that boats eat money. I went from a 30 footer to a 14 foot aluminum with a 9.9 HP. My trim always works as long my arm does.😁 What are you going to name the boat? My little boat is the "REDNECK RYDER".

More than likely I'll name it "Too Coys".

This is much more than a boat for me. Growing up my dad was always half gone since he worked off shore. And since I was a gay child I never had any interest in learning how to change the oil, or work on stuff. Now that I'm older I realize how much I missed and how important he is to me, so if this boat never makes it to the water, the quality time spent rehabbing it with him is all I need.

"Too Coys" comes from our middle name. He's Richard Coy l, and I'm Christopher Coy.

My uncle was the boat name king, across the stern in big letters for all to see was

Miss Carriage
Belmar NJ

When he handed auntie the champagne bottle to christen it she crowned him.

Don't neglect the trailer, if it's been sitting that long. Lots of grease in the wheel bearings and new lights are probably in order. I knew Coy had to be your names. After the little conversation we had, I would not have associated coy, demure, bashful or shy with you 😁

Ok, you might notice a theme here but how about "CC RIDER"?

We're going to have to replace the boards on the trailer for sure. We'll also replace the bearings on the axle, and I'm going to install all new LED brake/tail/turn lighting. Structurally its still good, just a little rust here and there.

We got the motor running yesterday. We blew out the carbs, bypassed the VRO, and put new gas in the tank. Surprisingly it nearly started right up. After a while, it was cranking up and running smoothly like it had never sat. We still need to replace the water pump, impeller, and we'll probably replace the remote shifter since the cables seem to be frozen.

I've started pressure washing it and getting it cleaned up as well. Going to be a nice boat once we get it going.

That would be an ideal KELP BED BOAT out here to catch Calico Bass and Yellowtail!
Possibly even for the Coronado Islands!

This right here. Spending time with your dad is worth more than the boat. The boat is but a catalyst. I am spending a lot of time with my dad. He is in poor health and can't do the things he would like to do, but he has been helping me a great deal with home improvement tasks. He has taught me many things like proper house wiring (sometimes I wish I was an electrician. I really enjoy it), carpentry, auto repair, etc. Some of my best moments was helping him on one of his electrical side jobs he would pick up. We are currently redoing the lower level of the house in preparation of putting in a new floor. We are putting up new drywall and redoing the 1/2 bathroom.

Fishing from a boat is ideal in my opinion. You can get into some of those coves and get your lure in the right spot up by the bank where fallen trees are hanging out. Lots of good fishing when you can fish there (whereas on the bank it is not practical at all).

Sounds like fun!!!

What's the average wave size in that area? I would think a 24+ footer would be a better choice for ocean fishing given the chop.

yes most of the Kelp bed fisherman use larger boats, but I have seen a few 14 footers out there. They even use KAYAKS to fish from. But the great WHITE SHARKS do scare them!!! 18 footer with a 130HP is a nice size! Needs a live bait tank to hold ANchovys and sardines!
I'd be TICKLED to have a wonderful boat like this!!

You've just given me an idea. Next time I go catfishing, I want to take a ramen brick and thread a hook through it. Next, season the ramen brick then cast it out.
What? Season it with stinkbait of course.

Went out to Clear Lake a few hours ago despite the rain and high water. We didnt even have to use the boat ramp, we launched it in the parking lot next to the dock. Ran it for about half an hour around 4500 rpms.

This engine is powerful, and gets the boat up on step in just a second or three. I'm very very very happy with this project so far. It floats, and it runs.

My dad also started cutting off all the old rusted out fenders and replacing them with new ones.

Excellent!

If all that rain keeps up, you'll need your boat for more than just fishing..!

My life in a nutshell: I love boats but I've been known to get seasick on inland lakes. I was getting seasick just watching your videos.

We went out after 12" of rain had fallen over night. We launched it in the parking lot of the boat ramp. We didn't even need the ramp!!

It's water lillies. They've been very very bad in the inland bayous this year, and all the fresh rainfall was washing them out.

I like your idea but, I am concerned that the current might break it apart; what if you wrap the Ramen in a piece of pantyhose, that would keep it from separating, while still allowing the flavor to seep out?

What Jason said. It's great that you're getting to spend quality time with your dad. I recently lost my dad -- tomorrow will mark two months since his passing. I really miss him. He was 84, but his overall health had been slowly failing for the past couple of years. Although I'll never see him again in this lifetime, I'll always have good memories of the time we spent together.

I don't really river fish for catfish but when the lakes were super low I used lake topo maps to try and cast out into the deep channels that run along the bottoms.
My idea is to thread the line (steel leader actually) a couple of time through the ramen brick and then tie on a treble hook. Two feet above that add a three quarter ounce to to one and a quarter ounce sinker that can slide up but no further down. Just before plunging the brick I'd like to spray it with scent and goop in the stinkbait between the cracks.

I'm learning how to fish the Albemarle Sound. A guy I met here is taking me out on his boat. The bait of the day here seems to be Spin Beetles and shrimp. I was very surprised to see that combo can be used to catch Stripers, Largemouth, Channel Cat, White and Yellow Perch and bream. White Perch seem to be common around here and actually very good eating.
