Here is a picture of our Christmas Tree. Took me 3 hours of work to put it up only to have the red lights to go out. Son-in-law is going to put the train set and village under it this weekend (He's working night turn this week) You can't tell from the picture, but it is on a platform.

I had a train set under ours once.My wife had an office X-mas party here and they wrecked it. I cried, put it away and never brought it out again. I was going to ask if you are a white x-mas light man. I've always used multi-color lights but my wife thinks they look garish. We had to compromise. White lights on the X-mas tree and I get to put colored lights up outside.

Beautiful tree. Reminds me of the Christmases when I was a kid.

I always do my lights red, white, and blue. Maybe when my son-in-law comes over, I have a gizmo that I track down a burned out lights. If that don't work we will take it apart and add red lights. As far as the train I have to have one under it my kids and grand kids are use to having one.

Some new LED lights that are not rectified and filtered somewhat bother the hell out of me. The 700 of them on my tree at home seem to do ok if you look straight at them and they are not moving. But when I was putting them on, good lord it was giving me a headache.

But they are pretty!

Once again we put up our little four foot fake tree. I prefer white lights as well, but this year I was overruled by the kids, who did most of the decorating work. My youngest made a weeping angel tree topper.

Both my son and me cannot be bothered to do anything for Xmas including putting up lights or a tree.
Have an artificial one in the attic with lights etc, but it'll stay there for the time being.

LOL... I have an ancient set of carbon filament Ghristmas lights up in the attic. They are the kind where the bulbs are sealed at the top like vacuum tubes. They still work too. Used them one year as a novelty but it is a short string of lamps so it doesn't add a whole lot of decor. They also get pretty hot.

Most people around here have switched to LED lights but a few people are still using the older screw in incandescent kinds. Frankly I prefer appearance of the incandescent type to the LED's..

It wouldn't feel like Christmas without the expected news report about burning trees.

In the days of tree candles they generally were not kept lit all the time or left unattended. People would generally light them for a short time, while they were in the room and while exchanging gifts or admiring the tree on Christmas Eve and afterwards extinguished. Of course that still didn't prevent accidents. There was one particularly tragic case where a schoolhouse caught fire when a tree candle was tipped and many people were trapped and perished.

We still use candles. Allstate hates us.Allstate hates everyone.

We bought our tree on Monday. I put it in the tree stand and gave it water when we got home (they gave it a fresh cut), brought it in last night. The boss & LMFD will be decorating it the next couple of days.

High School Band sells the trees as a fund raiser. Usually we get the tree a little earlier. Monday evening, they had maybe 2 dozen left (they started with over 1000). While the choices were limited, (a) it also meant that the boss didn't have so many to go through before finding the "perfect" one, and (b) all trees were down to $35; the one we picked was originally priced at $70.

We're a "white lights only" house.

Hey, it makes them happy. Much as I like the smell of fresh pine, I really don't care about whether or not we have a tree.

I did skip on the trees on the side of the house this year. Most years, 2 of the 4 get white lights, one gets red and white... and one gets blue. That one is the Hannukah Bush. Still might do them the next evening or three, though.

The same can be said about Thanksgiving. Its just not the same if there are no reports of someone setting their trailer on fire by deep frying the bird.

It only takes a minute. Be careful with those lights. Check them for faults and points of failure.

Many moons ago (1950's-1960's) my Dad was working for a small machine shop in lower Manhattan. One day this short, thin, elderly, well dressed man comes to the shop to talk with the boss. After talking with the boss for a bit the man gets up and politely leaves. What was it about ? The man offered his services as an arsonist. Or perhaps a broker for an arsonist. For a fee he offered to burn the place down so the boss can collect on the insurance. Fortunately the boss turned down his offer as the company was doing quite well with government contracts, etc.

Why yes, yes I have. I was hoping it would turn me into a hunka hunka burning love, but my wife says all I did was make a bigger ash of myself.

That's what you get for using an ash for a Christmas tree instead of a pine or a fir.

I suggested to my wife that we decorate her fir, but that made her pine away for a couple of weeks.
