Nation's newest national historic park in NJ (http://news.yahoo.com/nations-newest-national-historic-park-nj-134436781.html?bouchon=501,ny)

Ok....let's get THIS over with....

A national park in NJ? C'mon....

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Ok.....when you've recovered from the laughter...

It's true, and that's a pretty interesting and significant National Park. It was right there in Patterson that the "...birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution" can be toured. Was there a few years ago and the interpretive trails and museum are damn interesting to study. AND the falls themselves are darn pretty!

[What? Pretty Waterfalls in Paterson, NJ? WTF are YOU smoking?]

Here's something to ponder...

Paterson, the third-largest city in New Jersey, was once a booming beacon of industry and later fell on hard times. The waterfall, framed Monday by a ring of blazing foliage, is second only to Niagara Falls in water volume east of the Mississippi River. More than 2 billion gallons of water a day pass over its summit to the swirling Passaic River below.

Welcome to the Garden State!

There's a little tip-of-the-cap to those falls in the movie Lean On Me.

I wonder how many jobs that created. Probably 3 or 4 for park rangers, and a few temps for building necessary facilities. Hey, it's a start.

i see nothing funny about it. You can find beauty in almost any place. i find things of beauty in the most worn out beaten down slums. We are conditioned to think that beautiful things only occur in untouched, unspoiled, wilderness. But the urban centre also waltzes in glorious beauty.

There's a Flickr group for that.

Now they won't have to ship the inner city kids to Yellowstone.

"More than 2 billion gallons of water a day pass over its summit to the swirling Passaic River below."

I wouldn't consider sewage and industrial outfall water, not to mention all the dead things in it.

I wouldn't consider sewage and industrial outfall water, not to mention all the dead things in it.Oh, well, then it would be 8 billion gallons. But at least the Passaic River never caught on fire.

They sell lottery tickets to the first person who spots Jimmy Hoffa coming over the falls. Worth a lot of money.

You better have several tickets as I doubt he will be "together".

What's Gov. FatAss' take on this? Or is he forbidden from going since the park is not up to CA's seismic standards?

Yep. And we have a revolutionary war site in National Park, with lots of history. Check it out.

Now that the stadium is demolished and paved over for parking, I don't think they'll ever find him for sure.

http://www.nationalparknj.com/I didn't really realize how close you are to my mother's place (she's in West Trenton). Next time we're out east for a visit, I may just have to meet up with you and buy you a drink.

Something puzzles me about the rumors that Jimmy Hoffa wound up in the Meadowlands (euphemism for swamps and pig farms). He disappeared in Michigan. They transported him all the way east?

They transported him all the way east?Oh, I'm sure the reality is that he's no where near NNJ, let alone the Meadowlands. The joke/rumor arose because Giants Stadium was under construction at the time of his disappearance, and suffice to say all the contractors employed union workers. Now couple in the long rumors that most of the construction unions, let alone the Teamsters themselves, are controlled by Organized Crime figures... need I say more?
