The 50 ugliest cars of the last half century according to a list compiled by BusinessWeek (Slideshow).

Considering how many new cars are rolled out every year, it's no surprise that a few might be just plain homely. There's a chance that certain styles might become fashionable with a dash of retro hip. (Well, maybe not from the 1970s.) But for the most part, the following 50 cars will never be anything but design duds.

Yeah, that is a pretty popular truck and many GM trucks use the same basic design. They chose one with the stock wheel option for the article.

Yep. Featured as such on the cover of Popular Mechanics, sometime in the 60's.

The Chevy Citation and Pontiac Phoenix were not included and MOST DEFINITELY should have been. Not just from a looks standpoint but from an ugly engineering aspect as well.
ETA: I forgot to add the Oldsmobile Omega that was the Olds version of those same two above.

And, of course, the ubiquitous Post Office trucks just gotta get at least honorable mention.

A Deux Cheveaux may have been ugly, but it was a cool little car designed to fill many different needs, extremely rugged and designed to get you where you're going even in adverse conditions. An old friend of mine was a huge fan of those cars and had a bunch of them over the years. He could take one apart and reassemble it in a day and knew them down to the last bolt and lock washer.

One time were were driving back to San Francisco from Sacramento with a large quantity of a certain unapproved herbal supplement when we got a flat. Of course, the spare was no good either; things could have gotten hairy but my buddy wasn't fazed one bit. He rearranged the load (including me), took off the wheel with flat tire and drove on three wheels to the nearest gas station. We were safely on our way again within the hour.

I can't believe they put the El Camino, DeLorean, Prowler, Avalanche (they could stand to lose the fugly plastic though...), BMW 7 series, and Enzo in there, but left out the Scion XB, Toyota Yaris, Nissan Juke, Toyota FJ Cruiser, Chevy Aveo, etc...

I resent that, i had one, and lots of fun with it ;)
Specially when replaced the engine with a Citroen Visa engine, then i had the fastest 2CV6 in the Netherlands, doing 100 miles an hour flat out.
:)

It has an open roof ;)
Seriously, there was more headroom for my 7 feet in that ugly duck as we call them here, as in many US 6/8 cylinder cars i owned.....
Driving was fun, i even got it to cornering on 2 wheels around sharp bends or the city ;) you really had to try hard to do that with the suspention of that car.
You simply could replace everything with a basic set of tools.
Same colour as in the picture....

High school friend bought a Vega that was set up for the drag strip. Two eighty something V8 and a Turbo400 tranny. The engine had a high rise manifold topped with a pair of Holley 850's connected to 4 fuel lines. He paid $800 for the whole car in 1980. Sold off the high rise, one carb and the wheelie bars and had a street car but the cam and the crank was so high that it vibrated to death just driving to school.
He just had to have it. Imagine old school 50s on the back (tires). It still had so much torque after the detune that you could squall the rubber off of them from a standing start in third gear. After realizing that it wasn't a good date car .... he unloaded it on someone who was going to build a drag car out of it.

The first pictures of the PT Cruiser were very deceiving. I thought it was at least double the size, like the old vans of the 50s.
