So, I went to a Lady Gaga concert Friday night. While, I am not the biggest, "ZOMFG! GAGA!" type fan (I do think her music is ok); I have to say, she puts on a great concert.

I mean, really. It's a phenomenal show, worth going for no other reason than to see the act transitions (Small pieces of art in and of themselves), and the sets alone. Her first set was impugning pop culture, ie Sedation Dentistry and Breast Implants; Liquor store next to a street preacher's church.

The entire production has some rather deep messages behind it.

Then, many celebrities talk a lot of talk about social change; ie "SAVE DARFUR!", etc. Lady Gaga is one of the few that actually does something. For example, for every concert, she was running a billboard on each side encouraging people to donate (via text message) to go towards aiding homeless children (1 in 5 homeless are under the age of 18). She is matching (At each concert), up to $25K. Another example, she basically told everyone at the concert who had a smart phone, to send an email to Mark Grisanti, letting him know we don't like the fact he's holding up the NYS Marriage Bill. Gave his email address right there, waited a minute for everyone to get it.

All in all, a great show. I recommend everyone who has an interest in stage or music production to go and see it. Or, at the very least, buy/rent her DVD coming out sometime in the next 6 months or so, which is her show at Madison Square Garden.

Hello.

Lady Gaga is odd, an a good sort of way.

Entertainers have no business manipulating social issues! They need to sing and dance, maybe do a number where everyone gets to clap in unison, then take a bow and STFU! OK, now that that's out of the way, she is really talented and of course, negative publicity is going to follow entertainers around. What else would one expect? Elton John also put on a large show with large costumes and a flamboyant manner all his own. Lady GaGa almost puts him to shame.

She's not really attractive.Don't care.

She's really a man in drag.Don't care.

Her fashion designs are not practical.Don't care.

She's just selling sex and promoting alternative lifestyles.Don't care.
Anything else? Don't care.

I like her for the most part, but my heart still belongs to Cyndi Lauper. And maybe Tank Girl.

NSFW, but I could not resist... a loony response to this thread.

While, I'll agree that entertainers should not carry more weight than most any other person in regards to promoting social change (Since they tend not to be educated in the whole situation, like most any other citizen), she did stay inside of her "realm of expertise" (Universal marriage rights and homeless children). And, she not only "talked the talk", but also "walks the walk".

She often does videos of herself calling elected officials, and puts her money where her mouth is.

But, on the other note, if anyone here is into stage productions, they need to see a video of her concert. It's well done from a technical standpoint. 20-25 second set transitions with 0 dark stage time (Set transitions have a projected video montage, which are also very artfully done).

John is stealing from Bob Dylan (http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/Temporary-Like-Achilles-lyrics-Bob-Dylan/0A7290F0427316FC482569690029A0D8) again. But that's okay—after all, if you're going to steal lines, you might as well steal from the best.

Think, "Temporary like Achilles"

Standing on your window honey
Yes, I've been here before
Feeling so harmless
I'm looking at your second door
How come you don't send me no regards ?
You know I want your lovin'
Honey, why are you so hard ?

Kneeling 'neath your ceiling
Yes, I guess I'll be here for a while
I'm trying' to read your portrait, but
I'm helpless, like a rich man's child
How come you send someone out to have me barred ?
You know I want your lovin'
Honey, why are you so hard ?

Like a poor fool in his prime
Yes, I know you can hear me walk
But is your heart made out of stone, or is it lime
Or is it just solid rock ?

Well, I rush into your hallway
Lean against your velvet door
I watch upon your scorpion
Who crawls across your circus floor
Just what do you think you have to guard ?
You know I want your lovin'
Honey, but you're so hard.

Achilles is in your alleyway
He don't want me here
He does brag
He's pointing to the sky
And he's hungry, like a man in drag
How come you get someone like him to be your guard ?
You know I want your lovin'
Honey, but you're so hard.

B. Dylan.

Not on a rope, up a rope. I want to see her defy the laws of gravitation and, perhaps, Newtonian physics as well.
