So, I went to a Lady Gaga concert Friday night. While, I am not the biggest, "ZOMFG! GAGA!" type fan (I do think her music is ok); I have to say, she puts on a great concert.
I mean, really. It's a phenomenal show, worth going for no other reason than to see the act transitions (Small pieces of art in and of themselves), and the sets alone. Her first set was impugning pop culture, ie Sedation Dentistry and Breast Implants; Liquor store next to a street preacher's church.
The entire production has some rather deep messages behind it.
Then, many celebrities talk a lot of talk about social change; ie "SAVE DARFUR!", etc. Lady Gaga is one of the few that actually does something. For example, for every concert, she was running a billboard on each side encouraging people to donate (via text message) to go towards aiding homeless children (1 in 5 homeless are under the age of 18). She is matching (At each concert), up to $25K. Another example, she basically told everyone at the concert who had a smart phone, to send an email to Mark Grisanti, letting him know we don't like the fact he's holding up the NYS Marriage Bill. Gave his email address right there, waited a minute for everyone to get it.
All in all, a great show. I recommend everyone who has an interest in stage or music production to go and see it. Or, at the very least, buy/rent her DVD coming out sometime in the next 6 months or so, which is her show at Madison Square Garden.
