Anyone else binge some of the new stuff?

I'm thinking of the non-fiction, non-drama reality series types of programs. Here's a few that I like quite a lot:

* Home Town (HGTV): Erin & Ben Napier renovate old homes in Laurel, Mississippi

* Treehouse Masters (Animal Planet): Pete Nelson builds over the top treehouses. Season 12 of this show is currently cancelled.

* Gold Rush (Discovery Channel): Tony Beets, Parker Schnabel, and others hunt gold in Alaska, California, Colorado, Arizona, and other locations.
Dave Turin's Lost Mine is a spinoff of "Gold Rush" and is very good. The poignant loss of Jesse Goins and how Turin's team took care of Jesse's family afterwards was top notch.

I also enjoy almost all of the science related series, like "How the Universe Works", and I catch or record all of the historic programs, especially those about World War II.

Anyone else binge new TV series instead of mindlessly absorbing cable and network news, which I find boring and depressing?

Tree house Masters is very popular here.
Mrs U is the TV aficionado and I go along for the ride. Food porn shows are popular here too.

The list is quite long. I can only take so much TV before I wander off to the shop or shack, so I'm not the one to ask. I'll see what she has us into and report back.

The one network I can watch mindlessly is Motortrend. Shows where my mind wanders too.

I only turn the TV on when eating as background noise strictly avoiding Tree Manglers and Land Destroyers. I keep half an eye on Porn Stars and some of the new in search of something shows, otherwise it's my computer The Great And Powerful Oz keeping me from watching paint dry. Entertainment on the Internet beats the pants off of anything on the TV, movies of my choice and TV without commercials. Try not to miss Oak Island. Maine cabin masters and fixer upper are good. I used to watch some of the car stuff but Danny on Counting cars wowed me with ignorance when he told Alice Cooper he changed the brakes from drum to disc on his Studebaker Avanti. The Avanti had discs from the factory. Putting a Ford 302 in to replace a Studebaker 289 was also a bit off putting as the stude engine had as much HP as the 302 they stuck in. It will get interesting in a few weeks when I ditch windstream for a small local internet provider. If the bandwidth pans out I will be dumping Dish network as well and go to streaming providers.

I have not adapted to the binge TV lifestyle. The only show I watch that way is The Crown (although I did watch three episodes of The Graham Norton show back to back to catch up).

I have been watching the current season of the Great British bake-off... The hosts are very cringey but the contestants are honest and solid, and Prue and Paul are their usual selves.

Good grief Charlie Brown, The Curse of Oak Island (not the one in the NJ Meadowlands with a huge railroad yard on it) is about as unreal as unreality TV gets. The REAL money is not in some fabled pit, it's in the TV show they're milking to death. Well, it's one of the few shows I can stomach while eating. (;->) Counting Cars is however one that gets me all choked up and changing channels. It's such a pity how instead of restoring classics they chop them all to hell making rat rods out of them. I'm no Motorhead, (a Heavy Metal band) but I do know a thing or three about classics, many had balls under the bonnet and only need restoration to run the pants off today's plastic computers on wheels.

Oh yes please DO dump Dish for cable! We had it here until it got dumped for one even worse, anything satellite including Hughes Network for Internet craps out in rain and snow that disperses microwaves. That's where the old 8ft steerable BUD (Big Ugly Dish) shone like the sun, it and the old AT&T telephone relays with horns had sufficient gain to hold their own in the worst weather. Here's the thing about cable TV and high speed Internet, it all comes off of satellites BUT the down links come off of fixed 8ft BUDs and they too hold their own in the worst weather.

Here's one of those offers you BETTER refuse, Dish gives pets and perks when you get friends to sign up, the more the merrier... NOT! "What's this bull shit you conned me into? Every heavy rain or snow causes my TV to fail! @$%*!!! Some friend you are, with friends like you who needs enemies?!" Yep, the "friend" who borrows your shit and doesn't give it back is the one who deserves Dish, MUAHAHAHAAAaaa. Then as soon as that's done dump Dish and go with cable, then you can rewrite David Knopfler, 357 Channels And Nothing On.
