    Nissan Rogue

    Anyone have any experience (semi-)permanent mounting a rig in a Nissan Rogue?

    My Subaru Outback reached the point of on return when it came to repairs, so we just replaced it with a Buick... of course my wife got the "new" car, so I'm now driving the 2017 Rogue. (And it worked out, she wanted a slightly smaller car that fit in the garage better, I need the larger vehicle for hamfest finds and such). So I'm now trying to figure out how & where to mount one of the Alinco V/UHF dual banders. Any suggestions welcome!

    You're choices are limited unless you welcome destructo mode. Direct to positive battery and negative chassis. Filter and choke both sides of the connection on the battery side and the radio side. If it is a long run, both sides. Just the radio side on the chassis connection unless it is a long run. Newer cars are known for their computers and known for not being 100% bulletproof to RF.
    Mounting? Consider this possibility.

    OK, my fault. I should have been more specific that I was looking for suggestions on how and where to mount the radio.

    And that is an interesting mount you mentioned. Not sure how secure it would be... or how tempting it could be to some miscreant peaking in the window. But something to think about.

    I can't visualize the interior of your car, sorry. But the highlights involve stable mounting and routing of cabling away from any canbus wiring or any wiring at all really (Increasingly difficult every model year). And everywhere is airbags or its associated cabling as well. Plus, are you needing to mount a control head and main box separately and do you want unobstructed seating for shotgun? How are you tackling the antenna?

    The trick is getting purchase on actual structural strength from metallic components in the interiors of newish cars without compromising something. Plastic isn't what it used to be too. I keep saying it that way because my vehicles range 15 to 46 years old and that colors my experience. I know guys have made custom brackets mounted off the fastener for the passengers seat and it's possible to bend something that exits under some trim, but without having the car in front of me and pulling some panels off, I can't give anything step by step. I lost my woody for mobile operation when the sticky fingers made off with a radio and a CERT backpack, breaking a $500 window to get in. But I like the installation aspect, making things from whole cloth and all that. Might put a cb in the c20 when it gets going, but since a decent antenna on 40 is pushing it, no mobile for me. Portable, off the tailgate into trees stuff sounds fun still.
