I was looking around for a decent dual-banded to put in the car. Saw an ad for an old Alinco 605 for a REAL good price, $140, including shipping. Seller wanted paid by either USPS Money Order, or PayPal Friends & Family.

Hmmm.

Well, don’t know the guy, and F&F makes me a little nervous. Figured the regular PP fee would be a few bucks, so I sent him $150 to cover... gives him a few extra bucks as well.

An hour later, I got a full refund.

i feel like I just dodged the proverbial bullet.

Pity. Guess that price was just a little too good...

Decided to take another look at the TM-231A that I picked up at the DXE Hamfest a couple of years ago. It’s lost it’s memory, and the mike PTT is shot. Turns out, a replacement battery is about $9, and a replacement microphone $15. So that’s the way to go.

Sounds and smells like a scam. I will pass on anything that is Money order or PP friends and family and have no issue paying a little extra to cover the regular Paypal fees just for the purchase protection.

i do think Paypal f&f will go by the wayside soon. there are lots of what we call "vest pocket" coin dealers in odd places who want payment with Paypal f&f and Paypal will never make any money off that!
