Yep, there were love ins, be ins, and one of the best comedy shows ever, right up there with MAD TV, Rowan & Martin's Laugh in. Ruth was Buzzi but it was the flies, my attention was focused elsewhere.

Speaking of The Hard Shell Insects, John Lennon read a comment by Mick Jagger about them in a magazine he was reading, and his response was the song And Your Bird Can Sing. For those on this side of the big pond, bird is British slang for girlfriend.

Speaking of Micks, Mick Jones of The Clash in their iconic song London Calling, a direct reference to the BBC opening line on shortwave, referenced "phony Beatlemania has bitten the dust" and frankly I'm glad it did. Mind you I like Beatles music, but screaming teenage girls was just a BIT much. When they performed live on The Ed Sullivan "really big shoe" the engineers in Master Control had the audience mics up WAY too high and all we heard was screaming that ruined it. Another big mistake was recording it off the air feed instead of studio channels that made every record of it just as bad as the original live performance.

Before leaving the discussion, another phony Beatlemania DJ was "Cousin Brucie" Morrow on Shit Radio 77 claiming to be "the 5th Beatle" when "The Fab Four" had nothing to do with him. The REAL 5th Beatle was "Murray The K" Kaufman on 1010 WINS (pronounced as a word) who interviewed them several times during their stay in New York. Then there is the George Harrison nostalgia song When We Was Fab.......

I rather feel sorry for the kids who can only get their kicks watching You Tube when their grandparents and I watched it all go down as it happened. Then Paul McCartney did that song on The Magical Mystery Tour (the movie is insane) "Let's all get up and dance to a hit before your mother was born. Your mother should know, your mother should know."... and suddenly I woke up!
