    Tallest Wooden Radio Tower

Whilst semi-invalid after a hip replacement (quarter-wave on 70cms since you ask) I thought I might produce a powerpoint presentation on "the use of radio for information and propaganda" largely based round WW2 and discovered this:

It's not just a radio tower but, at 387 feet, it's the tallest wooden structure in the world at Gleiwitz, Silesia. It was built in about 1938 and is still in use today. If you want to build one, it's treated larch with brass fittings, Obviously the Germans denuded the local forests of larch trees to build this. There's no record of the preservative used but that should be no problem.

The story about the radio station makes interesting reading too.

That's pretty awesome. As a wood worker, I must say it's too bad they had to destroy all those trees. And, in light of their ingenuity, precision, and their attention to details, it's too bad they didn't redirect those efforts towards something more meaningful. But then, you know all about crazy Adolph. That reminds me fuck trump.

    Amazing structure and ingenuity.

Rata, I believe Yaesu had already put the fuck trump in their radio line long long ago. It's just a matter of how hard you wish to proceed. 10 times? 100 times? 1000 times? 5000 times? 857 times?

80 years old? They must have replaced some of the wood by now.

Imagine you could put just about any antenna configuration you wanted on it without fear of reflection.

Reminds me once there was a CBer in Portland about 20 years ago that built a 50ish foot tower out of wood. I think the city made him take it down for lack of prior permitting - not the shabby workmanship that was completely obvious.

That feller could probably build anything with just a few basic tools.

I've been away from the island. Got distracted by a brunette that looks great
in a b cup bra in my home.
