    One tube BC receiver kit.

I just read an article in QST about this little one tube receiver kit. Very cool. But, I don't know if it's $75 cool.

It probably is if YOU are selling them.

I've been watching those on ebay for a few years now. Every Christmas I consider buying myself one, then my ham DNA kicks in and turns the Scottish setting to 11 and I figure it's too expensive for what it is and table it for another year.

    ^^^ ^^^

It's amusing to see people rooting through the various hamfest parts bins, picking those things up and having nary a clue about what they are.

IMHO it's cooler than a $200 Heathkit AM radio.

Not old school but I've been considering this out of boredom. Supposed to be a SUPER receiver but it appears to have a lot of surface mount solder points. Couldn't be much harder than repairing iPhones.

Check out the comments. Can it be aligned "by ear?" I had a Sony stereo of late 70's vintage that came from the factory misaligned and one day I got in there and turned slugs until it worked properly on FMBCB.

    Talk about a breadboard rig...

Without seeing the schematic or what's underneath the... well, it's not a chassis, it looks like a wooden frame for a plaque, actually... what's on the bottom of the rig, it's hard to tell whether or not it's worth $75 today. But I'd betcha apples to oranges to gym teachers that most of us (on this here Island, that is) already have most or all of the parts sitting around the shack. Maybe not a 3S4 tube, although there are reasonable alternatives available. I'm sure the circuit can be easily found

Hmmm. If I ever resurrect my old AC-1, or get around to building a replica, that might be a good "match" for it. But just for fun, of course.
