    Walter Becker is gone...

    http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/walter-becker-steely-dan-co-founder-dead-at-67-w500956

Walter Becker, guitarist, bassist and co-founder of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-inducted band Steely Dan, died Sunday at the age of 67.

Singer-keyboardist also talks sci-fi, mental health and growing up as "a real jazz snob"

Becker's official site announced the death; no cause of death or other details were provided.

Becker missed Steely Dan's Classic East and West concerts in July as he recovered from an unspecified ailment.
"Walter's recovering from a procedure and hopefully he'll be fine very soon," his band mate Donald Fagen told Billboard.

Becker's doctor advised the guitarist not to leave his Maui home for the performances.

I don't know about the rest rest of you old farts, of which there are many around here any more, but since I'm still in my late teens, early twenty's, (in my head anyway) I expect the bands we grew up with to still be young and just as I remember them. When I see a post like this, I would expect to see they died from an OD, falling off a stage, or maybe getting caught with another man's wife. When I hear a group like the Beach Boys, for example, the song they are singing puts an image in my mind of what they looked like at that time. Yet, today when I see the few of them that are still with us,.............

When I see the news of some of the members of our favorite bands passing in their late 60's, 70's and even later, it reminds me of my own aging and mortality. Sometimes, I think music of our youth can be a curse. But I still love hearing the old tunes because intertwined with all of that, it brings back more than one persons share of fond memories.

    RIP Mr. Becker
