The one person I know who did it, got poor RX afterwards. Not sure what the SMD does that was removed, but it appears to have been part of it's filtering network.

Nope, and it is not legal. Despite this being a group of "Misfit Hams"?

www.mods.dk probably has it somewhere. Or the Dark Web?

    That is all. No offense.

    Modifications

The VX-3R can be modified to transmit on MARS and CAP frequencies through hardware techniques, however this radio does not meet NTIA standards for either MARS or CAP.

The hardware modification requires the removal of an SMD located under the battery pack.

This radio is also a preferred radio of
Hacktivists and as such is the subject of some unusual and exciting mods.[citation needed]

It is capable of being programmed by the open source Chirp software.

    The best 220MHz mod is to buy a VX6, VX7 or VX8.

Alinco makes a 220MHz mobile rig.
All the world’s a stage, but obviously the play is unrehearsed and everybody is ad-libbing his lines. Maybe that’s why it’s hard to tell if we’re living in a tragedy or a farce.

Well, I meant get a rig designed for 220, not so much the brand itself (Although, I am partial to Yaesu).

The folks around here bitch about 220 being dead sans the little private family repeaters. None of them will part with their equipment for that band.
