    Poppy Seed cakes

Does anyone love poppy seed cakes (also called mohn-streitzel in German) as much as I do ? I love the damned things but they aren't always easy to find unless you have a good Jewish, German / European bake shop nearby. Fortunately a shop nearby me usually has them. To me poppy seed cakes are more addicting than the other stuff that comes from the same plant.

It's easy to find the poppy seeds. I can get 5 & 10 lb bags of them from baking suppliers and spice stores, The key however is making the poppy seed filling which is a mixture of ingredients. The poppy seeds are ground and then butter, sugar, honey, milk, and other ingredients are added & then it's blended mixed, etc to get the right consistency , The filling is sweet, bluish/black in colour but also carries the distinct and unique flavor of the seeds. I've loved it since I was a kid.

Thank you for your welcome. You are the first on this site to contact. Hope all is well up their, currently it's a pleasant 24C. Later on will crack open a few home brew beers as I have taken this month off from work as I've accumulated too much annual leave. Cheers...Brian.
