    Old CB restoration

I just finished the restoration of my uncle's RCA Mark7 CB rig, vintage 1960. That's his QSL card in top. I heard stations from the west coast coming through yesterday afternoon.

    Nice job!

Is that the one for which you needed the IF transformer? Open up the case on that puppy and let's see some good old fashioned hollow state.

    ETA:

Don't know why I want one but a set of Demcos would be neat.

Nice job George! I love it when an avid radio person restores a classic piece of gear, ham or CB, doesn't matter.

Please show us the hollow state inside. I love hollow state stuff!

Demcos are way cool. Back in the day when radios and cars had style.
The one with the IF problem came from e bay Fred. I drilled out the rivet that holds the mica wafers together in the bottom of the IF. Then I took them out, reassembled the can, put it back on the chassis, and soldered the wires back on. Then I took a guess at the value and tacked a 120 PF cap across each coil lead. It receives, but not very well. I just have to find the right value caps to replace the micas.
I'll get a shot of the inners of unks radio when I make some room on the bench.

This is one I restored a few years ago. I converted it to 10 meters and it has a rock for 29.0 . Unfortunately there isn't anybody on 10 AM to talk to, so it doesn't get much use.

Thanks! I first got interested in radio and particularly Amateur radio back in the late 50's early 60's. My Dad was a ham (tho original K4PIH) and my brother still is (K5EH) and I grew up around surplus military, Hallicrafters, National, Hammarlund, Heathkit radios. I clearly remember having a Hallicrafters SX-25 in my room with a long piece of wire thumb tacked along the ceiling. I watched Dad and big bro mod ARC-5's for 40 meters. I'm particularly fond of Swan gear.

Sorry for that little boring trip doen memory lane. Had a flashback!

I'm QRV there quite a bit. Every time my TS-660 or one of the Paragon IIs is powered up, 29.0 AM (and 29.600 FM) is automatically scanned for signs of life. Those are the only rigs inline at the moment which are capable of 10M AM operation but I have a few more tucked away.

Problem between NJ and OH is...lack of propagation unless we get some sporadic E.
