    Crystal Substitutes?

So I found a couple of CB waklie talkies, one 3 channel one 6 channel. They use crystals. I want to mess around with one of them and see what what it will do.
What can I plug in or make to plug in the RX crystal socket to receive something other than CB? Variable capacitor? Anyone have a circuit diagram of something that will work like one that I can use to make it more frequency agile? It's not for any purpose other than to see what it will do.

An LC network around 9 MHz can work as VFO, but will stay limited in range.

If you are going to try that, I'd put a coupling cap between the collector and the rig so you don't run the 3 V supply into the radio.

I'll measure the voltage from the socket to see if there is any, or enough voltage present to run it first.

Yep, that is how we broadbanded the 23 channel Cb's in the time.
And the TR 7200G of Kenwood a chrystal controlled 2 meter transceiver ;)
    Bit finicky but it worked

I'll see if there's anything left at the local RS. Ours is closing now.

How 'bout that. A TRC 209 just fell into my lap. I think I have a mic that will fit it too. So far it's in 100% working order.
