$81.06 later as of this morning, I'm registered for my first marathon. Cape Cod, MA in Octobah. I've done a few halfs, scads of 10s, but never the full 26.2 (or any training run longer than 15 miles, for that matter).

My resting heart rate is typically somewhere in the mid-50s*, so I figure on average I'm good.
* when I take it. When it's in the office of my brunette PA with the piercing blue eyes and nice, umm...it's about 175.

My calculations are based on running full speed for the first 100 yards, entering into a slow trot for the next 200 yards, then crawling on my hands and knees for the remaining duration of the event...
