Thanks, fun to watch looking back to experimental times ;)

That's not a solar eclipse, just The Crusher tuning up his "green" radio.

Funny thing, my neighbor who became interested in ham radio after hanging out with moi has a connection to this station. He went on to become a local full time BC after I turned down the position to be a full time student. He advanced to become WLW's CE. He wrote an interesting article about bringing up the old transmitter to usher in the new millennium. Forgive the ancient webpage:

WLW stands for "Willwee LOUD Wadio"

I heard stories that the Russian Army use to learn English by listening to WLW in the 30's. Also, a story is Edward VIII latter Edward the Duke of Windsor, called WLW and asked to hear a song. Don't know if they are true, but with that kind of power you will be heard.

I have heard stories of the nearby corn field fences singing along with the signal. Lucille Ball made a claim that her teeth fillings behaved like rf detectors as well. I can pick up the second harmonic quite well 5 miles away from Mason, Ohio.

I'd like to fire that thing up on 160 meter AM one dark and cold winter night. And of course, for nostalgia's sake I'd have to also smoke a Avalon cigarette. Not sure where I could find an Avalon cig these days... :)
