Especially seeing as a fully-decked out 897 was around that much. Although, this one does have an internal tuner that's not an option. No internal battery option though.

The ft-1200 is a more advanced radio but cheaper than the 991. How is that? I think that price is way overstated for what it is

I wonder how many of those they're going to sell at that price. The IC-7100 is $400 less and it includes D-Star. True, no ATU, but you can buy an LDG unit for less than $200.

All the world’s a stage, but obviously the play is unrehearsed and everybody is ad-libbing his lines. Maybe that’s why it’s hard to tell if we’re living in a tragedy or a farce.

It's an odd price point, for sure. It's expensive enough to price out the people who might dabble in VHF/UHF all mode, and the hardcore rovers would use transverters anyway. No satellite capability, so it doesn't take over the TS-2000's niche.

Icom sold roughly a bazillion 706MKIIGs, and yet there's no current radio out there that's a direct replacement for what it did. Did the ham world change that much since 2000?

Still have the FT 100 here, so I'm covered.

If I was going to spend that much $$, I'd get the KW TS590. But then, as has been pointed out to me, that much moola will go a long way towards remodeling the bathroom.
