The Arecibo Observatory has captured a mysterious and rare deep-space event – a so-called “fast radio burst” (FRB) that lasted a mere three one-thousandths of a second, confirming the results of astronomers at Parkes Observatory in Australia. Until now, it had been thought that the RFBs observed at Parkes may have been of local origin since they had not been seen elsewhere.
