    Our day at the chiropractor.

My wife was in a minor fender bender recently, no major injuries, but we like to play it safe and after much recommendation, we retained a really good attorney firm with a winning record. The partner we got is a very easy going, pitbull of a lawyer who used to play ball for UNLV back in the late 80's right before their national championship, he towers above us, at least 6' 10"...but i digress. The day after the accident, she was at work and started feeling nauseous, numb and sharp pains all over. She thought it was because of work, it was the onset of true whiplash. It doesnt take very much at all, just add rapid stress, everything tensing up for an impact, then an impact...it plays hell on soft tissue and joints. This sucks for the person in the wreck, but its gold for an attorney. We had to call because that shit aint right...the girl who hit her was playing with her phone or something, Devie stopped for a little girl crossing in a walk, and the young woman slammed right into her. If she didnt stop, the other driver would have plowed right through the crosswalk and the little girl. Just a sidenote, the woman that hit her didnt even ask if she was ok, and the little girl walking heard the collision...scowled at Devie, kept walking. Gotta love these Vegas people, even the kids are dicks! :-| Whatever. Digressing.

After the initial meeting with him, he sent her to "his" chiropractor, massage therapist and MD ("his" meaning 'the specialists who work closely with a particular attorney, and is unlisted otherwise'...a little thing we had no idea about). Its a VERY busy chiropractic office run by an American-raised Iraqi artist/doctor, Kevin...he is a legitimate bad ass! He and his partner are very cool, extremely patient and very good doctors with tons of training and experience. His artwork hangs on the wall and is what i would describe as next level! Again, i digress.

He did the prelim X-rays on her and found some spine and neck curvatures and soft tissue damage that the normal insurance based doctor wouldn't spend any time on. They do the full monty because it will all be paid for with no haggling, just rack up the bills because it will all be covered by insurance at no cost to the patient if they are found to not be at fault. Thats how it works. Mind you, she has never been to a chiropractor or massage therapist as she hates being touched by strangers. Joey, the other doctor, traction specialist, also administers the deep tissue electrode therapy and knows what he is doing. Once he preps her, he sends her across the room to Kevin who folds her up and cracks her entire body like bubble wrap! The whole time there is classic rock going on throughout the place...the good stuff too.

Then Kevin recommends that she go next door for the tissue repair (not bullshit, its part of the healing). The office is a small massage facility thats set up like a meditation garden. The women that work there are seriously legit! Really know how muscles and tendons work. The layers and how to reach them. And no hand jobs! Very gentle souls who know their business...the owner is also Kevins sister-in-law. ;)

The MD Kevin sent her to is a snarky, lazy douchebag who stared at her tits the whole time. Basically nothing more than a drug dealer in a strip mall. Im going with her next time so i can stare at him. She needs to go so it strengthens the case for her. But he is a distant third as far as importance. Enough on that guy.

I went with her to the chiropractic appointments, as well as her first massage session...i was convinced that i had had enough of my jacked up back and set an appointment, out of pocket, with Kevin and Joey. My first appointment was paperwork and Xrays, then meeting Kevin. He wanted to go over my scans to know the right way to approach the work, explain stuff and answer my questions. Ive never done a chiropractic visit before either. My next visit was the day to get beat up, but first, he wanted to show me what was happening with my back. My neck hurt a lot, but that was muscular, the spine was what he wanted to talk about. It appears that after 35 years of playing bass, my spine and back muscles have shifted around and built up on one side as a result of wearing my bass on the left shoulder for so long. If left alone, they could fuse like that and i would be one miserable old bastard in a few years.

Im on my third visit now, and my neck is already feeling the benefit, but my muscles are sore as hell because they are being forced to behave like normal muscles. The electrodes are weird, but they are helping. Devie is on her 7th visit and starting to feel much better, but he wants to fully fix her long overdue issues. We both have different things going on, she just needs to keep doing what shes doing, but for me, they want to start doing full traction on these medieval looking devices that wont be pleasant at all. I actually dont have an issue with pain, especially if its fixing stuff, so im game. I start that wednesday.

Yesterday, Devie did her first massage treatment. I sat in there with her. She was hurting as that was her very first time releasing toxins and lactic acid from those muscles in 40 years. The woman was a stout, muscle working artist...that was all i needed to see, i set my first appointment for wednesday before my back cracking. I am going to get this fixed, then keep up on it from time to time. Its worth it to us to do this.

The point? Go to the source of your issues, dont mask it with pain killers. Fix it if you can. We never would have known about these people, nor would we have ever gone to one in the first place considering how much Dev hates to be touched. But she had to go, otherwise, she doesnt have a case. She is so happy she did. You just never know when a positive can come out of a negative. Her insurance company called her yesterday too, the lady was very cool and told her (after hearing the whole story) that she was NOT at fault in any way since she was hit from behind in a school zone. Not to worry, this will be taken care of. We arent looking for big money and we arent the litigious type, we just want these things fixed, including her bumper, which should also be covered. Cool by us.

...Oh, and she can only work 4 days a week now. FMLA approved and untouchable by union rules. Doctors orders!

Tell Devie I wish her a speedy recovery. After telling my wife about her and Bob's wife, she went and hid in one of the cargo containers.

Like I told Bob, you better be doing the cleaning, cooking, and waiting on your wife, hand and foot. Don't make Carl and I have to come to Vegas and kick your sorry bass. We can be there in just a few hours.

I also hope you get your back straightened out, too. It will probably help on the low notes.

Thanks Eddie, she tells me that she would like me to cook for her sometime...but she always kicks me out of the kitchen! I tried.

It may be a good thing in the long run. Many years ago, I cooked something for my wife, and have been doing it ever since. Truth is, I really enjoy cooking, anyway.

Seems to be a bad week for Islander's wives, doesn't it?
All the world’s a stage, but obviously the play is unrehearsed and everybody is ad-libbing his lines. Maybe that’s why it’s hard to tell if we’re living in a tragedy or a farce.

Whole bunch of islanders and family in the crappers...
Hope you both get sorted out, I hid my back pain with painkillers for a year before I went for professional help and got made unfit for work and can "enjoy" being at home permanently disabled.

Went for the bicycle test this morning, nice graphs of something fishy in the heart the doctor said, next is 5th of june for the real verdict...
Bloody hospital cost me 1 € in parking costs.... twats.

Watch your health all and good recovery for the ill ones.

Tell Devie that we're thinking of her and get better soon. Now when we come out to visit, they can yap about their aches and pain, and you and I can go do something else. The way it's going around here I can foresee the wives getting their tickets and hanging out on 75.

Ssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I don't want my wife to hear that shit. She is liable to find out that I am somewhat normal, for a ham op.

I shall let her know...already did, in fact. :)

Yep...you do know we have that big Frys store, as well as an AES. I will actively forbid the use of 75 meter medical nets in this house!
