    Signalink for FT817? No Way!

    So, I was kicking about the idea of getting a signalink for PSK and stuff with the FT817. No way!

    I found the "perfect" QRP PSK portable configuration:

    * FT-817ND
    * Yaesu CT62 CAT Cable
    * Yaesu CT-39A Packet Cable
    * Sabrent USB Sound Dongle
    OR
    * Radioshack Headphone/Mic combiner (A little dongle that splits a headphone/microphone port into headphone and mic input)
    * Samsung Ativ 500t

    The Ativ 500 gets about 8 hours of battery life. It's a winderz 8 tablet PC, designed for on-the-go work. It has your standard cell phone headset/mic port for audio.

    Wire the packet cable with two stereo connectors (Important, especially for the microphone), and you have your soundcard interface. Add your CAT cable for rig control and PTT.

    Got it all tested out at home, and next weekend I'll hit up a park or three, and try to log some contacts there :)

    You'll have to go to the woods to "log" contacts.

    I'd like to do the same thing, but I'm not certain how to connect the CT-39A packet cable wires to the stereo plugs.

    Here's how I think it needs to go:

    Data Input (TX audio) [Brown] => Left & Right (speaker plug)
    Data Ground [Red] => Ground (
    speaker plug)
    PTT [Orange] => None
    RX Data (9600 bps) [Yellow] => Left & Right (microphone plug)
    RX Data (1200 bps) [Green] => Left & Right (microphone plug)
    Squelch Status [Blue] => None

    Does that look right?
    What should I connect to ground on the microphone plug?
    Should I connect both 9600bps and 1200bps RX data to the mic plug?

    Any guidance would be much appreciated!

    It looks right to me. I tied the 1200 and 9600 leads together, and it seems to work. I tied all grounds together as well, I believe, but I'd have to open the wire up to see for sure.
