I refuse to do that. All it does is encourage others to interrupt you. Once you start down that road, you can kiss all the DX goodbye, as one after the other pesters you. I've either shut down, or changed bands on these guys when they don't get the hint.



I know WHY they're doing it. Doesn't change the fact that it's still rude.

I play ham radio on my terms. If they refuse to understand that, then I simply go do something else. They need me; I don't need them. I don't chase paper.



So have I, and I won't be an enabler to bad behavior. It's like those assholes who, when the DX says, "The WA4?", and 3 guys call who aren't even remotely a WA4. Jackasses....

Another thing I used to hate is when I was calling for a specific station and some other jackass responds. If I wanted to talk to the jerk I would specifically call for him. I also can't stand the jackasses that just put out a general CQ without a DX. What kind of moron calls CQ just to talk to someone nearby ? If you want to talk locally just join a local group or use UHF. That is what UHF is for,

Well, FWIW, I've run into the same thing. It happened when I was experimenting with PSK-31 (which I'm going to get back to with the 'new' rig), it's happened when I'm calling 'CQ DX' on CW.

The bottom line is that some induhviduals are clueless, pure and simple.

Reminds me of two incidents from the past...

(1) Back when I was in school, one year we tried a weekly 'Penn State ARC Summer Net' on 40 SSB. Got disrupted every week by some maroon, who had no association with the club or the University of any sort, just HAD to check into the net, and proceed to tell us about his life. The attempt to meet was officially terminated when we got together for Field Day, it wasn't worth the aggravation.

(2) I was talking with another ham on 2 meters. We were both mobile, heading to the same destination. So a relatively new ham from a county away breaks in, joyfully tells us how happy he is to work us, and proceeds with his life story. He should have paid a little more attention to the subject at hand; we were both on the way to the funeral home, for the viewing of the wife of a long-time club member. Suffice to say, the clueless one never paid attention to the conversation he was breaking into, or never realized how inappropriate that 'break' was.

Or how about the morans who just key up on a repeater, give their callsign and say "listening". So yeah ?? you are listening, what I am supposed to do or why would I care ? I am certainly not gong to respond to them. If you want to talk break into an established conversation with something relevant to the topic at hand. Otherwise shut up.

Yep. Standard procedure in these parts; it's the repeater equivalent of a CQ, an open invitation to chat.

These are the same people who give their call sign followed by, "for ID".

Why else would you give your call sign??
