    The Amplituhedron

Maybe Space-Time Is Just an Illusion

The revelation that particle interactions, the most basic events in nature, may be consequences of geometry significantly advances a decades-long effort to reformulate quantum field theory, the body of laws describing elementary particles and their interactions. Interactions that were previously calculated with mathematical formulas thousands of terms long can now be described by computing the volume of the corresponding jewel-like “amplituhedron,” which yields an equivalent one-term expression.

“The degree of efficiency is mind-boggling,” said Jacob Bourjaily, a theoretical physicist at Harvard University and one of the researchers who developed the new idea. “You can easily do, on paper, computations that were infeasible even with a computer before.”

The new geometric version of quantum field theory could also facilitate the search for a theory of quantum gravity that would seamlessly connect the large- and small-scale pictures of the universe. Attempts thus far to incorporate gravity into the laws of physics at the quantum scale have run up against nonsensical infinities and deep paradoxes. The amplituhedron, or a similar geometric object, could help by removing two deeply rooted principles of physics: locality and unitarity.

Richard Feynman would have loved this. Booze, bongos and Tuvan overtone singing all night long.
All the world’s a stage, but obviously the play is unrehearsed and everybody is ad-libbing his lines. Maybe that’s why it’s hard to tell if we’re living in a tragedy or a farce.

Of course he would, it's where he was headed till he got called to play bongos in another plane of existence.

And it's an oddly beautiful shape.

And, just think, you're seeing it "wrong", so to speak. It's a 12 dimensional polyhedral, if I'm not mistaken. More or less, we're only seeing the equivalent of someone drawing a sphere on a sheet of paper. Close enough to give a person an idea when they see one in 3 dimensions, but just not like seeing the real thing

    So are fractal antennas.

Worm holes in your FTL drive will never do, unless the ship belongs to the Spacing Guild.

I didn't know you have a holographic 3D monitor, I thought it was a flat screen like the others. My 12 eyes see it as it is as it rotates and tumbles in space, who could imagine?

Who could imagine that they would freak out in Minnesota . . .

    Who could imagine . . .
    It can't happen here
