I recently acquired the sheet music to the violin solo for Tcaikovsky's "Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 34". So far I can play the beginning of part 1 "Allegro Moderato" reasonably well. But it is a long, challenging, and rather difficult solo to play and I exect it to be a rather long, possibly lifelong, work in progress for me. At the same time it is such a beautiful and moving piece, sweet and slow and fast, fiery, and intense, such that I decided I must have a go at trying to learn to play it. Besides it was always my favorite violin solo. Even if I never master it well enough to play with an orchestra or in front of an audience it is still fun, challenging, and will definitely force me to improve my overall skills and technique.
