Kelli turned me on to this...

of knowledge to the nipples of ignorance?" ~ Professor "Dick" Soloman

Maybe it was mentioned elsewhere... but Chris Cornell died last night due to a successful suicide attempt.

For those who are not in touch with music after 1990, Cornell was the leader of Soundgarden. The band came out of the Seattle "grunge explosion" which started in 1991/92.

One of the differences between Soundgarden and it's contemporaries, was that the band could both play, and write, at levels way above the rest of the grunge scene. Think of them as a really hardcore Dave Matthews Band. In other words Artists. Who's best work was capturing the feeling of a moment in sound, and sharing it with the listener.

Unlike Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, who committed suicide after only a few records- the genius of Chris Cornell is well understood. When you think of Cobain you think of possibilities never realized. When you think of Cornell, you wonder why. He was both brilliant and productive musically at a level where money was never a problem.

    I am saddened.

Generally music videos are lost on me... but this one is good (lyrics below):

    Oh
    Mmm

Feel the rhythm with your hands
(Steal the rhythm while you can)
    Spoonman
Speak the rhythm on your own
(Speak the rhythm all alone) spoonman

Spoonman, come together with your hands
Save me, I'm together with your plan
    Save me, yeah
    Save, oh

Well, all my friends are Indians
(All my friends are brown and red) spoonman
And all my friends are skeletons
(They beat the rhythm with their bones) spoonman
    Oh, hmm

Spoonman, come together with your hands
Save me, I'm together with your plan
    Save me
    Save
    Save me
    Save me, yeah
    Save
    With your

    With your hands
    With your hands
Come on, come on, come on, come on
    Hands

Mmm, come on while I get off
(Come on while I get off)

Spoonman, come together with your hands
Save me, I'm together with your plan
    Save me
    Save, yeah
    Save me
    With your, with your hands
Feel the rhythm with your hands
(Steal the rhythm while you can) spoonman

Damn. That was one of the tracks on Road Rash. Awesome bike race video game.

1992 was when music came back to Greenville. It took a long hiatus starting about early 1974. When we all heard grunge for the first time, ON THE AIR of all places, I could tell it was something soulful, sorely needed after years of stuff like The Safety Dance and One Night In Bangkok.

Why do you hate Murray Head? Don't listen to the song, listen to the background music. Holy crap at the complexity. Think Alan Parsons. Just sayin.
