Baseball Seeks to Suspend 20 Players

There's a list of MLB players that have been found to be using steroids... some very familiar names are on it too.

    • Ryan Braun, Milwaukee Brewers
    • Everth Cabrera, San Diego Padres
    • Melky Cabrera, Toronto Blue Jays
    • Francisco Cervelli, New York Yankees
    • Bartolo Colon, Oakland Athletics
    • Nelson Cruz, Texas Rangers
    • Fautino de los Santos, free agent
    • Gio Gonzalez*, Washington Nationals – only received legal substances, according to ESPN's source.
    • Yasmani Grandal, San Diego Padres
    • Fernando Martinez, Houston Astros
    • Jesus Montero, Seattle Mariners
    • Jordan Norberto, free agent
    • Jhonny Peralta, Detroit Tigers
    • Alex Rodriguez, New York Yankees
A-Rod who sez he wasn't using any is an interesting case.

Maybe this means the Cubs stand a chance at winning the pennant?

Listening to some of the on air commentators, you would think these guys were molesting children. They're not.

Regulate these substances for use in MLB during the workout sessions of the OFF SEASON.

Never heard of any of them.

Has major league American baseball become a dominantly Hispanic sport in the 40 years since I paid any attention to it?

Not really. It's down to something like 8% African-American, with 60% White, and all the rest are Hispanic.

This list enumerates a group patronizing a single clinic. Only one of the 14 is not Hispanic. For whatever factors are at play, this reflects a disproportionate population.

The owner of the clinic is Hispanic and his doctor father gave prescriptions to Hispanic athletes. From what I can tell, this was a word of mouth thing among the players. The clinic is in Miami.

    I have.

First, yes, there is certainly an increase in active players of Hispanic decent compared to 40 years ago. (And Korean, and Japanese, and other nationalities as well)

Second, some of these players mentioned are amongst the "top" or "elite" players. They've got some 'splainin' to do.

Third, no one has been suspended. Yet. And if & when suspensions are announced, you can bet that virtually all of the suspensions will be appealed by the MLB Players Association, so nothing happens right away. If ever.

Fourth, at least one player (Melky Carbrera) has ALREADY served a 50 game suspension. He may get off 'scott free' this time, but only because he may have already 'served his time' for this 'offense'. On the other hand, Ryan Braun got off the hook (with regards to a 50 game suspension) before, but only on a technicality. This time around, he's going to find it to be a lot harder to duck.

Fifth & finally: Remember, everyone is innocent until proven guilty. As I recall from some of the articles yesterday, there a few players who used the clinic to obtain legitimate medications under a doctor's supervision. Those players OUGHT to have nothing to worry about. So just because someone is named in this mess does NOT neccesarily mean that they're guilty of any wrong doing, sensationalist media whores not withstanding.

(And not a single Pirate made the list. They're probably too broke to afford the place anyway... )
