    How to save $120

Been wanting to get into beekeeping, but lack the cash to buy a package of bees to get me going.

So, being the cheap bastard that I am and always looking to do things the hard way, I put an ad on Craigslist asking for information on a bee swarm on the loose.

Got a call the other day from a woman who was rather upset that some bees decided to swarm in the bush by her driveway. I got there and in about 45 minutes had a box full of buzzing goodness in the back of the Jeep headed back home. Only got 4 stings when some bees got caught under my shirt.

Also found out that I am a little bit allergic to bee stings! Got a tightness in the chest on the way home and a couple hours later I turned a few shades of red and broke out in hives for the evening. Needless to say I now have a nice bee-proof jacket and have made an appointment with the doc in order to get an eppi-pen.

The ladies are liking their new hive and I hope to get some honey out of the deal next summer.

My father used to keep bees too.
I keep my 2 feet on the ground, and my head in the twilight zone.

Had a hive going for a while when I lived in Oregon 30+ years ago. A bear destroyed it one night. Bastid.

All the world’s a stage, but obviously the play is unrehearsed and everybody is ad-libbing his lines. Maybe that’s why it’s hard to tell if we’re living in a tragedy or a farce.
