    OSCAR Telecast

Seth McFarlane's not doing too bad. He's already better than Letterman was.

Did get a small chuckle at The Negotiator's small contribution, as an aging (geez, no kidding) Captain Kirk.

THAT is going to be the closest that William Shatner will ever get to an Academy Award!

I've been enjoying it. Some of it is cringe worthy, but you had to expect that..

    "The Family Von Trapp!"

Ah... no. Nice try, I'll give him credit for trying something a little unexpected. But no.

And Christopher Plummer nailed him for it... old coot still has a sense of humor, even if he did dub the movie "The Sound of Mucus". But then, what else would you expect from a Klingon General?

The closing number was a hoot.
All the world’s a stage, but obviously the play is unrehearsed and everybody is ad-libbing his lines. Maybe that’s why it’s hard to tell if we’re living in a tragedy or a farce.

I can't believe how many people don't/didn't know who Seth MacFarlane is. I thought he did a good job, the Oscars have been a notable trainwreck for years - it's a tough gig. Most of the reviews have been love him or hate him, there's no in between.

Cue. Right. Wing. Freak. Out. Now…
Michelle Obama Announces Best Picture Award — Tea Party Goes Apoplectic

But the First Lady also delivered a shout-out to the LGBT community, concluding, “These lessons apply to all of us no matter who we are or what we look like or where we come from or who we love.”

Follow linky for the teabag tweets...

"FLOTUS INTERRUPTUS," the headline at Breitbart cheekily announced, "Obamas Hijack the Oscars." Yes, just like terrorists according to Breitbart, the Obamas hijacked the Oscars! Here, Christian Toto called the First Lady's appearance "an unprecedented cultural power grab by the Obamas, almost daring conservative viewers to adore her as much as progressives already do." Come on, conservative viewers - you know you want to! The headline at Glenn Beck's The Blaze screamed: "Oh My God: Yes — The Oscars Really Did Have Michelle Obama Present the Best Picture Honors." Why, yes they really did! Fox News, meanwhile, said that the First Lady's appearanced "sparked debate" (meaning that it sparked impotent rage among conservatives), quoting some anonymous industry source who called it a "suck job."

Frustrated tweets from right-wingnuts across This Great Land of Ours may be enjoyed at The New Civil Rights Movement. "Are you still watching communist propaganda a.k.a. Oscars?" one person calling himself John Galt tweets, "Obama & his gang of parasites is about to merge with terrorists." It must hurt to be so full of dumb, twisted rage.
Wingnuts: So offensive, yet so easily offended. I think this is called "losing."

I immediately thought 'how bizarre' when I saw Mrs. Obama appear.. I don't think it's an 'unprecedented cultural grab', but I did think it was highly unusual.

My favorite comment of the night was "Oh great, Michelle honors a film where Canada, Hollywood, Jimmy Carter are heroes."

I didn't care for Michelle Obama's appearance on the show. Simply because it was political grandstanding.

BTW, something else that didn't dawn on me right away. Anyone else notice it?

What was the name of the show last night? The Oscars.

But what was the name of it last year? The 84th Annual Academy Awards Presentation. (or something like that)

I know, it's being picky... but I just thought it odd that they changed the name of the show. My wife is convinced that the Awards are now no longer given out by the Academy.

...also, I didn't notice any "thank you" to PriceWaterhouse, as they've done in years past. That, however, was a good thing...
