The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

I'm in the middle of Douglas Adams 4 book masterpiece and I would recommend it to someone who has time for a bit more than 800 pages.

    Some bits:

"Space," it says, "is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly hugely mindboggingly big it is. I mean you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist, but that's just peanuts to space.
For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much - the wheel, New York, wars and so on - whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man - for precisely the same reasons.
"If there's anything more important than my ego around, I want it caught and shot now."
"Simple. I got very bored and depressed, so I went and plugged myself in to its external computer feed. I talked to the computer at great length and explained my view of the Universe to it," said Marvin.
    "And what happened?" pressed Ford.
"It committed suicide," said Marvin and stalked off back to the Heart of Gold.
At your local library (hopefully), local bookstore, Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

All the world’s a stage, but obviously the play is unrehearsed and everybody is ad-libbing his lines. Maybe that’s why it’s hard to tell if we’re living in a tragedy or a farce.

Someone gave me a copy many many years ago and I started reading it. Never finished it. I found it boring.

Didn't the Hitchhikers Guide also have a sort of cult following. Sort of along the lines of the Rocky Horror Picture Show ? Or am I thinking of something else ?
