Here in Puerto Vallarta, I just got back from Costco, where they have a big, refrigerated walk-in room that customers enter to buy fresh fruits and vegetables. I suppose that U.S. Costco stores have the same setup. As I walked into the chilly room, it reminded me of a winter day back home ...kind of melancholic, actually. Then I stepped outside, into the 91.4F (33C) sunshine. So much for my little winter vacation.:(

Not too exciting. Days of rain. 60 and 70 degree days and 50 degree nights.

    El Niño Weather Arrives

Looks like a wet week is in store for SoCal. A series of Pacific storms is headed this way with 2.5-3" (63-76mm) of rain predicted to fall by the time they're done with us on Friday. Consider that the average annual rainfall for San Diego is 10" (254mm) and that gives you an idea of what sort of impact this is gonna have.
All the world’s a stage, but obviously the play is unrehearsed and everybody is ad-libbing his lines. Maybe that’s why it’s hard to tell if we’re living in a tragedy or a farce.

Hopefully it will help many of the drought stricken areas in the Southwest.

First lake effect snows of the season now blowing off Erie and down towards me. Kelli and Corey, here's hoping the winds don't shift to the west and send feet of it your way.

We had some lake effect on New Year's day. I'm looking forward to spring already.

I'm going to take my snow bike down to the Towpath Trail and get some miles on it if the snow sticks around. Problem is...the stuff is supposed to melt by week's end and the whole shebang will be a muddy mess all the way into Akron.

The slop-road...errr, offroad tires and rims are currently mounted and I have to switch them to the snow-specific tread pattern before going out. Not much fun to do in an unheated garage.

After we had the warmest December since 1770, winter arrived, freezing rain, -2.7 C now more freezing rain/snow expected.
Some dips in the electricity because the high voltage lines get coated with ice and through the wind start to sway in the wind, "line dancing" and touching each other shorting out electricity for a very short moment.

Typical El Nino pattern for the West coast of North America Carl...... an oscillating jetstream we had the warmest and wettest November ever and December was going the same way until about 2 weeks before Christmas the pineapple express followed the jetstream south and now it's your turn! ....... it's been cool around here ever since with lows at night under fairly clear skies as much as -5 degrees Celsius with daytime highs barely making +3 degrees C.
We even had about 2-3 centimeters of snow last night that is melting away nicely. The weather people here are saying that things look as though we are going back to warm and wet by towards the end of January.........steadily drying out as we get towards spring and summer and warming up as well! Yes, typical El Nino
Why,driving into a brick wall at 60 miles per hour, would I expect it not to hurt!

From record highs here on Christmas, now tonight we are down to 8 deg F but by the end of the week we'll be around 50 with rayne. Despite this arctic blast the El' Nino (aka... El' Shitto) is supposed to last well into the Spring or maybe even the summer.
