An elderly woman appeared in court charged with shoplifting..
"Did you steal the can of peaches" asked the judge..
"Yes," said the woman..
"How many peaches were in the can?" he asked..
" Six," she replied..
" Well," said the judge, "you can spend six days in jail."
Her elderly husband stood up.
"Can I speak on my wife's behalf," he asked..
"Certainly," said the judge.
"She also stole a can of peas."
