A couple of decades back, The Late Great Planet Earth was a NY Times bestseller. This gave way to a plethora of doomsday books, movies and TV shows. Here is one of the more notorious doomsday shows that claimed to be based on the quatrains of Nostradamus...
Seems that they were making a few unwarranted assumptions.

Nostradamus was no dummy.
His quatrains are written so generically that they can be made to apply to all sorts of situations. Which was very clever, because that way, he couldn't be executed if a prediction turned out "wrong".
To extrapolate those ~500 years into the future only means one thing, and it's not that he was a seer without measure:

One day our sun will expand into a red giant then collapse into a white drawf, killing all life on Earth in the process.
Unless the divine hand of intervention somehow upsets and forestalls the sun going off the main sequence, I absolutely guarantee this 'prophecy' will be fulfilled. And none of us can really guarantee anything else short of our own deaths.
