And now we know that Ford made the 428 to compete with GM's successful 427.
Ford and Chevy both produced a 427 starting in about 1962...the 428 was never in the Cobra, and was produced much later. The Ford 427 came in 5 different flavors (including single overhead cam), and was capable of more power. It was also one of the first production engines to use 4 bolt mains. Google Ford Thunderbolt.
