It's miracle! A Beefy Miracle! Fedora 17 released.

Using the stupidest code name in the history of RedHat/Fedora, "Beefy Miracle" has been released. I've been using the beta for awhile now. It's just another solid release of many.

    http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/...Release_Notes/

The biggest technical change I can note is they've updated to the latest LSB standards in terms of the file system layout.

/bin, /sbin, /lib, and /lib64 have been removed and everything is now placed under /usr -- for legacy purposes, symlinks have been put in place.

Oh, jeeze, you're talking about an operating system. That's a relief. I thought you meant something else entirely.
All the world’s a stage, but obviously the play is unrehearsed and everybody is ad-libbing his lines. Maybe that’s why it’s hard to tell if we’re living in a tragedy or a farce.

Not bad. I wonder when this change will make it into RHEL/CentOS.

I'm running Fedora 16 on a new 64 bit Dell machine and I like it. So far it was one of the most flawless installations I have ever done. Video card was detected and set up properly, sound set up properly, I basically didn't have to tweak anything after installation. I did have a bit of confusion with the new "systemd" as opposed to the older SysV init but that was minor. Now I want to throw it on my other machines that are still running Fedora 11.

The issue with putting /bin /sbin /lib all under ./usr is a minor issue AFAIC. And the sym links are there so no sweat.

I remember when I was running some of the early versions of redhat (before they started the Fedora project),. I remember running code names such as Picasso, Hurricane, Hedwig. Biltmore, etc.
