    First day on Bass Guitar

After several discussions with Adam, N7YA, I decided today to dive into the world of Bass Guitar playing. Wow, it is Great!. Warrants new avatar. I did a recording, and I don't mind sharing one of my first day on Bass recording. All the bass you here is from my new guitar.

It isn't perfect, I am catching my timing errors, it is because I was thinking rather than playing.

I picked up the Squire Jaguar Bass (has three separate pickups), and the Acoustic B100 (many knobs on it, 100W, very heavy)

I have lots of practicing this summer. Paul, W1GUH, is going to have to bring his guitar over this way, and we need to have a little jam session. Anyone with drums in the area? ;)

All the world’s a stage, but obviously the play is unrehearsed and everybody is ad-libbing his lines. Maybe that’s why it’s hard to tell if we’re living in a tragedy or a farce.

Well, I appreciate the kind words. I have only played two days, ever, on Bass. I will have some practice time this afternoon.

From the Internet, I found this..

    Wicked Game
    B A E E
    g-------------------------------|
    d-------------------------------|
    a-------------------------------|
    e-7-77-5-55-0-00--0-00----------|

    Just repeat over and over....

    I found this works well...

    B A E E
    g--------------------------------|
    d--------------------------------|
    a-0------------------------------|
    e--7-77-5-55-0-00--0-00----------|

A quick hit on A in a before e, stepping up from e(0) to e(7), it just sounds natural, but it has to be quick and short. The A string is muted when playing e(7)

I also do 'House of the rising sun' differently too, the original music has one long solid tone for each chord stroke, I have two in many places.

Congrats Paul! I never regretted switching from violin to bass when asked to from the orchestra director. The real fun began when I went electric as they are a bit easier to lug around than a double string bass. You sound better than I did my first day. Here is a shot of my latest acquisition:

These are what I've been playing lately.

The black bass on the left is the new Fender Blacktop Jazz w/ precision pickups where the J's would normally go. An Alvarez 6-string Bass in the middle, and an old Ibanez P/J with Bartolini's wedged in it.
