I'm a little inexperienced in this hobby to totally appreciate the electronics portion of what you accomplished. However, I can very much appreciate the metal work in the cabinet. You said you have a shop. Does it include a metal bending brake? That case is beautifully straight and square :) If I'd tried to do that by hand, I guess it would end up a trapezoid and have lots of RF leaks.

Thanks for all the nice encouraging comments...I do build 2 meter amplifiers and the odd 70cm on request ...70cm is a lot harder to get efficiency...

I have a simple workshop and no special tools...I do everything by hand...I actually order the sheet metal cut to size for the amplifier cases...I use aluminum angle and pop rivets to do the final assembly..The cases take around a day and a half to complete as I have to cut out all the holes fror meters, sockets etc by hand...As I have been doing this for many years the job is routine to me...Fitting everything perfectly takes time and practice..Mum knowledge of electronics is rudimentry but I have taught myself through experience...Solid state leaves me cold..

    Lol, rudimentary. Talented and modest.

Well, that amplifier just sold for $1800...That's $1k for all my work and time..I'm happy..
I have another 2 meter unit completed and ready to sell next week...Ya know, keeps this old geezer outta the pub...
I have already started another 6 meter GS-35B amplifier so I will be busy for another couple of weeks then I will have to find something else to keep myself occupied...Retired since 1983 and I don't know where the years have gone....Ah well !!!

How many hours did it take to build the 6M amp?

    Simply amazing! and beautiful work.
I love to build something that takes 10 watts in and a couple out.

I have built 2 GS-35b amps and, I have a third one that I have taken a sabbatical on building until things slow down around here. The first was a single tube / single band model. 4500 on the plate Ip was about 1.0 amps with 100 peak watts of drive produced upwards of 3000 watts on the Bird 43P. Second one was a 2 holer with 5000 on the plates that did over six easy. They worked great, but compared to your construction, I am humble, embarrased and not qualified to sweep the shaving from your shop floor.

I see that you are using the W4ZT bias type board, what the idle current one the tubes during zero-signal mode and, what the Ip and Ig under transmit?

Looks pretty nice to me, Melvin. I like the vacuum caps.
All the world’s a stage, but obviously the play is unrehearsed and everybody is ad-libbing his lines. Maybe that’s why it’s hard to tell if we’re living in a tragedy or a farce.
