500 KHz and 70 MHz added to our bands

From January 1st we got 501 to 505 KHz as amateur frequency, and 70.0 to 70.5 MHz as ham band.
Last moment notice, but again we were expecting it for sometime.

You're so excited that you posted it twice!

Let's see who on the eastern seaboard will take your countrymen up on a 6-to-4M QSO. I have a spare 2M module for my FT-726R that I have been thinking about modding for 70MHz RX.

You only need 440ft if you really load it man. This is the RCA coastal station WSC in West Creek, NJ now W2WSC. The main tower was tuned for 500KHz but is now grounded and used as support for other antennas, now the club may rethink the arrangement. Since AM broadcast towers are vertical real estate it can be done.

Oh and BTW, sitting on the porch of my Forge Road home with glowing 4-400As behind me I would watch the red beacon flashing while reminiscing watching the WOR beacons in Carteret from my bedroom window in Rahway while listening to the inimitable Jean Shepherd.

Thanks for the memories Shep, time to push the money button.

I'd like to see 70 here, too; and hope that repeaters are not allowed or are given a very narrow slice. I think it would be a fun band to experiment on, and that it would make a very nice band for digital comms. But then, what the hell do I know........

Kewl! Get to work on the very long long wire antenna.
All the world’s a stage, but obviously the play is unrehearsed and everybody is ad-libbing his lines. Maybe that’s why it’s hard to tell if we’re living in a tragedy or a farce.

I have a Dave Curry 25 Watt SSB Lowfer Transceiver kit sitting in the attic somewhere. That was 160-190 KHz I think. Kind of hoped we would adopt those low bands, could have been fun.
