Finally got a round tuit & got a quick pic of it.

Haven't even opened it up yet...but the guts look good through the cabinet.

If it's a war on drugs, then free the POW's.
Brings back the smell of burnt resistors and rf chokes. Two smells you never forget. Although that rig doesn't use them, shorted stacks in selenium rectifiers have a distint smell of their own.

Never had the pleasure....and I think I've VERY glad!

Just in case...
That's been described as a Ranger and an HQ-110 in the same box.

Nice. I had a GSB-100/HQ-100 combo in high school. Traded the stuff off for a TS-520S; a few years later I got the Gonset back on loan and paired it with an HQ-180 for 75M AM.

Sweet, sweet sweet vintage station. Had an HQ-180 for a while and frekin' LOVED it. Damn fine receiver. Mine was paired with an Apache and an SB-401. Fun days!
Took me 20 years to find the '76. Patience is its own reward! $110 AND I found a power connector at he same hamfest. The guy gave it to me. Is it any wonder why I LOVE hamfests?

Agreed. What I was really impressed with in the '180 was the SSB performance. Par excellence! That, and the main tuning calibration. LOVED that radio!
BTW...the Sussex hamfest is one where you can camp-out overnight. Dealing really starts then. The '76 was a find early the next morning. The socializing the during the night before was just wonderful! Didn't even get charged the o'nite fee. The fairgrounds are mostly concerned with RV's that us a lot of electricity. If you're tent camping, they let you slide.

As most already know and for those who don't.
Selenium rectifiers are not to be trifled with. Please remove them and replace with the proper silicon equivalent.
If they every burn out, the gas released is very very bad for you and can linger in curtains and carpet fibers for years, kind of like the half life of uranium.

and always practice good electrical safety

I've enjoyed island life for 17 years. That's 13 years more than the Confederacy was around.

When do you tell a woman you're a ham?
It's a jungle out there. Many EQ stupidly with poor articulation.
