GM builds its 100 millionth small block

Folks, that's a whole butt load of engines. According to the article, the combined output of all of them would be 23 billion horse power.

Wonder how many of those are still on the road, or in service powering non-automotive equipment?

That's actually an amazing number when compared to other items.

On a lark, I looked up how many of the "other small blocks" - Legos - have been made. About 400 billion since 1949, vs. 100 million GM small blocks since 1955.

Or roughly, 4000 Lego blocks per GM small block. A Lego is essentially injection-molded plastic, perhaps with some finishing steps, which is nothing compared to the effort going into building a GM small block. It gives a good idea of the immense magnitude of the US car industry over the decades and of GM within that industry.

    Thanks for the post.
