It's nice to slow down a little

On Friday I had to take my wife, Mellisa KC9NSE (Her mom can't spell) to Peoria for another MRI of her back.
She has a 2 for going on. 2 vertebrae are touching each other and 2 disks under that that are bulging,

Previously when we lived in Monmouth (40 miles North of here) we would take the 4-lane and Interstate (83 miles). The trip between Galesburg and Kickapoo on I-74 was the longest, most boring trip in the world....like travelling across Nebraska. Anyway, now we live in Macomb and it is still exactly 83 miles to Peoria but it takes considerably longer because it is all 2 lane with more then a few towns thrown in just to slow ya' down. I thought about running the extra 40 miles to Monmouth and then over but that is allot of extra gas with little time savings and my old red Ford is well.....Old and tired.

So we left a little early set the cruise on 55 MPH and headed cross country. We found ourselves on one of the most scenic routes I've ever been on in Illinois. The road snakes along the Spoon and Illinois rivers. We found ourselves travelling through old mill towns like Duncan Mills, travelling through tree covered hills, and discovered the Banner Marsh.

It was a very enjoyable trip and for the first time, I find myself looking forward to our next trip to Peoria.

BTW, and for what it is worth.......Peoria Sucks!!!!
