    Future Radio

If I ever get things straightened out again, What radio would you guys recommend for a computer geek? I have a FT-817nd right now but would like something with a little more UMPH to it for the future. Thoughts?

You are a computer geek, why not one of those SDR radios?

um... i don't think I'll ever see one in the price range I'm looking at. Besides that, I'd want something that I could eventually have work with a Mac or PC, or Even in Linux.

Well, if you are used to the Yaesu world, the FT-857 or 897 do quite well with computer control. Your 817 can be computer controlled as well, and if you need more "oomph" there are some amps to consider.

Instead of a new radio, here's a $pendy but great amp for the FT-817...

This is a kit, and I've talked to a couple of stations using them...

Got two FT-857's, and used to run an 897. I also have a Flex 3000 SDR, and it's pretty cool. Also a Ten Tec Pegasus. I really like PC controlled rigs. Wouldn't necessarily dump the FT-817. It's a decent radio.

    What's your price range?
All the world’s a stage, but obviously the play is unrehearsed and everybody is ad-libbing his lines. Maybe that’s why it’s hard to tell if we’re living in a tragedy or a farce.

For a computer geek I would recommend a nice old boatanchor with tubes inside. Gotta get away from all the computer/digital stuff now and then and a nice old boatanchor is just the perfect prescription. :)

    Ft-1000D.

    Jupiter.

    Omni VII.

    TS-2000.

    FT-847.

I can think of a bunch more but all the above are reasonably priced.
