Railroads often use power sharing arrangements. CSX used a BNSF loco somewhere and, in return, they lent BNSF one of theirs for X amount of time.
All the world’s a stage, but obviously the play is unrehearsed and everybody is ad-libbing his lines. Maybe that’s why it’s hard to tell if we’re living in a tragedy or a farce.

That's it. Quite the assortment of power here.

It makes economic sense. Locomotives don't come cheap and most of the time the RR has all the motive power they need. When they're in a pinch for one reason or another, they just call around until they find another road that has some power they can spare, then agree to loan them some of their own back in return once the pinch subsides.

    Hey Bill.
    Nice shots.
If you ever want to do some panoramas and you can't find that feature on your camera's software, send me the files and I'll stick them together for you.

Although I don't disagree, I believe it's more a run through thing when a train transfers from one road to another. Why waste time assuring all the locos are branded with the current road's power when the train is ready to go as it is?

Obviously, the few remaining railroads finally learned what business they're in. At long last.
