    Woohoo!

The other day I won the following Ebay auction for a 45W VHF Motorola Spectra...
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...K%3AMEWNX%3AIT
I expected just an RF deck since thats all the auction showed, and figured $30 shipped was a fair price. It arrived today, and in the box was the RF deck, plus an A9 head, remote cable, and a mic Unfortunately I already won an A5 head on Ebay on Saturday, but it was only $12 and change shipped, so no big loss I guess. Now I just need a speaker, a power cable, and a DB15 connector for ignition sense...

Either way, if you get enjoyment out of it, then it was a good purchase.

Excellent steal there! Now, you just need to find all the other parts to go with the other A5 head :)

Is the DB15 an odd one, or a standard one? Or, is it a DE15 connector (ie a VGA connector)?

The thought has definitely crossed my mind to try to snag another RF deck on Ebay and build a second setup, but I'll probably try to get this one working first. It uses a standard 2-row DA15. I'll probably make a trip out to Fry's this weekend to pick up some DA15 and DB25 connectors and shells so I can make the cables I need. I sort of wish it did use an DE15 connector, since I've got a ton of old VGA cables floating around in my junk box...

Do you know a lot about those old Motorola radios, Jarret? I'm looking for a cheap way to get onto my club's 70cm repeater and I've heard that a Motorola is a good way to go but there are so many potential pitfalls involved that I've been reluctant to buy one without expert advice first.
All the world’s a stage, but obviously the play is unrehearsed and everybody is ad-libbing his lines. Maybe that’s why it’s hard to tell if we’re living in a tragedy or a farce.
