This type of logic has traditionally been reserved for monetary policy.

What did they call it when people used to make off-air recordings of their favorite songs - and entire albums?

Yes, the radio stations in this area used to play entire albums starting at midnight, with only a "Side A-to-B" commercial break.

I forgot about recording off the radio. I was guilty of that from age 9 and up. Amazing how many times you can hear a song and then the time you have the tape deck set up the DJ wants to blab over the intro.

Monetary yes, that's where I was going. The tax code and the minting press.

I'm not pirating music/movies/books! I'm participating in a network of multiple, off-site archiving locations.

Haha! Me too. I remember about that same age, calling up a radio station and bitching at them for messing up my recording with their blabbing over the songs.

So far I've amassed 55 cassettes and over 80 minidiscs from the radio, ignoring the quarter-inch tapes I started with. (Yes, I even had a splicing block on the tape recorder with razor blades and splicing tape).

In return, liking stuff like the Beatles, Eric Bibb, Vaughan-Williams and so on, quite an eclectic mix I hope, I've bought a number of CDs which I wouldn't have considered otherwise unless I'd heard them a couple of times over. Is that reasonable? Seems so to me.

Just ordered another Eric Bibb CD in the last half-hour and an Albion Band so I look forward to those!

Find me something new worth pirating these days and I'll copy it.

You'll search a very long time.

I stopped buying CDs long about the time music went down the (c)rap(per) and have no desire to buy any more unless they're reprints of older acts.

The sale priced MP3's from iTunes and Amazon get a few $ from me. But I have a huge music collection anyway.

The local radio station KUVO keeps me going, their online streaming is excellent, BTW. And the Comcast music channels.

Remember music videos? I used to like them sometimes, but YouTube does the job for me.
